Seismic study of the chemical composition of the solar convection zone

چکیده
Recent downward revision of solar heavy-element abundances using threedimensional atmospheric model has introduced serious discrepancies between standard solar models and helioseismic inferences about solar structure. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of determining the heavy-element abundances using helioseismic inversion techniques with the hope of providing an independent estimate. We use the adiabatic index, Γ1 ≡ (∂ lnP/∂ ln ρ)s, as a probe to examine the effects of the total heavy-element abundance, as well as the effects due to the abundance of individual elements. Our inversion results show that the new, lower, abundance increases the discrepancy between the Sun and the solar models. Subject headings: Sun: abundances — Sun: oscillations — Sun: interior

Seismic inversions for temperature and chemical composition profiles in the solar interior
The primary inversion of the accurately measured frequencies of solar oscillations determines the mechanical properties of the Sun, i.e., the sound speed and density as a function of solar radius. In order to infer the temperature and hydrogen abundance profiles inside the Sun, it becomes necessary to use, in addition, the equations of thermal equilibrium along with the input physics, such as o...
متن کاملThe Base of the Convection Zone and the Solar Magnetic Cycle : Seismic Detection of Their Connectionm
It is now possible to detect small variations with time of the characteristics of the transition at the bottom of the solar convection zone, as determined from the periodic signal in the frequencies. Such measurements may allow us to establish whether and in what manner the deeper convection zone changes with the solar magnetic cycle. This is important for understanding the dynamics at the base...
متن کاملSensitivity of low degree oscillations to the change in solar abundances
Context. The most recent determination of the solar chemical composition, using a time-dependent, 3D hydrodynamical model of the solar atmosphere, exhibits a significant decrease of C, N, O abundances compared to their previous values. Solar models that use these new abundances are not consistent with helioseismological determinations of the sound speed profile, the surface helium abundance and...

Solar models that use these new abundances are not consistent with helioseismological determinations of the sound speed profile, the surfa...
متن کاملThe Solar Heavy Element Abundances: I. Constraints from Stellar Interiors
The latest solar atmosphere models include non-LTE corrections and 3D hydrodynamic convection simulations. These models predict a significant reduction in the solar metal abundance, which in turn leads to a serious conflict between helioseismic data and the predictions of solar interiors models. We demonstrate that the helioseismic constraints on the surface convection zone depth and helium abu...
